French vehicle manufacturer Renault joined hands with Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) in 2005, to launch a mid-size sedan in India - by the name of Logan. The launch of this car was a part of Renault's strategy to establish its name in the highly competitive automobile business of India. Logan is based on Renault's widely accepted space optimization design. The automobile offers a generous inside space and is a visual delight for the eyes, with its stunning looks on the outside. Mahindra Renault Logan is truly one of a kind in its class.

The variants of Mahindra Renault Logan are powered by three different engines - 1.4L petrol engine, 1.6L petrol engine and 1.5L diesel engine. 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter petrol engines generate a power of 75 bhp and 84.5 bhp respectively, @ 5500 rpm. The 1.4 liter engine produces 110 Nm of torque @ 3000 rpm and the 1.6 liter engine delivers 128 Nm of torque at the same rpm. On the other hand, the 1.5-liter common rail diesel engine churns out a power of 65 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 160 Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm.

The car sold in three continents, namely Europe, Africa and Asia and in 42 countries (the car is not offered in the U.S.). Despite the low cost 5000 euros (Rs3, 00000) the kind of quality is not a good car from other manufacturers. GM and Toyota is drawing methods to produce low-cost vehicle that could challenge the Logan.

The exteriors of Mahindra Renault Logan are quiet impressive. Prominent wheel arches, smooth bodylines, sparkling headlights and trendy tail lamps cluster highlight the exteriors of the sedan. The front grille is adorned by the Renault badge. Although the car seems to be huge, it is very lightweight. The mid-size sedan offers a comfortable ride for five people.

The cabin of Mahindra Renault Logan is designed thoughtfully, with beige color scheme being the highlighting feature of the interiors. The instrument cluster is very simple, but looks elegant. Beige colored steering wheel completely gels with other elements of the interiors. Logan comes with a huge boot space, which allows the passengers to carry luggage of all sizes.

The price of the 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre petrol versions of Logan will start from Rs 428,000 (ex-Mumbai), while the 1.5 litre diesel versions will be available in the range of Rs 547,000 and Rs 644,000 (ex-Mumbai). The ex-Delhi price of the Logan will start at Rs 435,000 to Rs 576,000 for the two petrol variants and Rs 554,000 and Rs 651,000 for the two diesel variants. Logan is very reasonably priced and is sure to give trouble to other manufacturers. At present other manufacturers denied announcing any price discounts but expecting this in near future.

GL is the basic variant, while GLS / DLS is the premium version. Features such as rear defogger, electric windows, glove compartment light, trunk room light and rear head restraints are only in the Premium version. Logan's much-praised air conditioning will be a tough battle with the Indian Summer. LCD display instrument cluster features, which is seen in all cars, a computer calculates the average consumption, average speed and distance to empty is only for premium drivers.

The ten variants of Mahindra Renault Logan Edge are 1.4 GL, 1.4 GLE, 1.4 GLX, 1.6 GLS, 1.6 GLS ABS, 1.6 GLX, 1.5 DLE, 1.5 DLS, 1.5 DLS ABS and 1.5 DLX. The midsize sedan was launched with a price tag ranging from Rs 435000 to Rs 576000 (approx). It is available in many vibrant colors, including Sahara Beige, Toreador Red, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Diamond White and Turf Green.
